Anxiety Stress and Worry
Some feelings of stress are common in most people's lives, whether it be from events in their home lives, work lives, or relationships. Many people are able to cope naturally with a certain level of stress, but prolonged or intense feelings of stress can build up and become unmanageable. Stress can lead to increased anxiety, panic attacks, exhaustion, and illness.
It is not the event itself which can cause the perception of crisis, if that were true no-one would be able to go to work, take exams, move house etc
It is a person's perception and response to that event which determines how well they are able to cope.
Stress and anxiety are exacerbated by negative thinking. Finding techniques to cope with stress without becoming part of a spiral of negative thinking can help with feelings of tiredness, irritability, tearfulness, palpitations, breathlessness, headaches, and many other physical and emotional issues.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you to deal with stressful situations in a calm and effective way. You will be able to control your anxiety levels, focus on the positive things in life and move forward to a calmer, happier future.

Low Mood/Depression
The World Health Organisation estimates that there are 350 million sufferers of depression worldwide. It can affect all areas of your life – your thoughts and feelings, relationships, and work life. Depression can cause lack of sleep, sleeping too much, loss of interest in activities, eating too much or too little, difficulty concentrating, and feeling sad or fearful about the future. Often people with depression feel the need to withdraw, pushing away family and friends and becoming gripped with feelings of despair and helplessness. they are not able to cope.
If you have been diagnosed with depression, you may wish to use hypnotherapy alongside your medication. If you have not been diagnosed, but you can relate to many of the symptoms above, hypnotherapy can help you too. Hypnotherapy enables you to understand how your thoughts and feelings are linked, how they are created, and how we can work to change them.
By focusing on the positive things in life and taking control of our thoughts, we can feel and behave much more positively and slowly start engaging in our lives again.

Insomnia
According to the NHS, over a third of the population have problems sleeping. Do you have trouble getting to sleep? Wake up often during the night and find it hard to settle back to sleep? Wake up early in the morning and are unable to sleep in? Feel exhausted when your alarm finally goes off in the morning?
Effective sleep patterns are key to our brain's ability to process thoughts and feelings about recent events. An inability to sleep can lead us to become irritable, withdrawn, and find it hard to concentrate.
Over a prolonged period of time, lack of sleep can become an obsession – if you think you won't be able to fall asleep, you almost certainly won't. Hypnotherapy uses relaxation to calm the concious mind. Using techniques to minimise anxiety and maximise relaxation will help restore effective sleep patterns and allow you to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead!

IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
According to the NHS, as many as 1 in 5 of us will develop IBS at some time during our lives. Symptoms include, abdominal pain and cramps, bloating, diarrhoea, or constipation. Research has found stress and anxiety can exacerbate the symptoms of IBS. NICE, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, allows Doctors to refer patients for hypnotherapy for treatment of their IBS. The links to this evidence are below. You do not have to be referred by your Doctor for hypnotherapy, you can refer yourself, we would always recommend that you see your doctor first as getting a proper diagnosis first is very important.
Hypnotherapy uses the power of the mind, to help counteract some of the impact of IBS. That is not to say that IBS is caused by anxiety, the reason why hypnotherapy is one of the therapies recommended is because IBS, like many illnesses, can be made worse by stress. The good news is that we have some very useful hypnotherapy tools (progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery) that can be very effective in helping you control your IBS.
Guidelines issued by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) recommend Hypnotherapy as one of the most effective treatments for IBS.

OCD – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Do you find yourself thinking repeatedly about your own health or death, or the health or death of a loved one? Do you find yourself compelled to repeatedly check things or carry out certain behaviours, for fear of what may happen if you don't? Do you feel the need to count everyday things and become anxious or stressed if the number is not right?
These are all signs of OCD. OCD is characterised by actions carried out as a result of intrusive or unwanted thoughts.
Hypnotherapy will equip you with the understanding of how these thoughts and behaviours are created, and the techniques to take control of your thoughts to focus on the positive things in life and work towards a preferred, positive future, free from the grip of these repetitive feelings or actions. There is no need to analyse the negative experiences that may have got you to this point, we are concerned only with the actions you can take to become calm, relaxed and able to cope with life's events.

Panic Attacks
Have you ever felt breathless, a racing heart, sweaty palms, churning stomach, feeling fearful or out of control?
These are all well-known symptoms of panic attacks. Panic attacks are the body's response to an overload of stress or anxiety and can occur at any time, in any place, and to anyone. These feelings of anxiety can build very gradually before triggering a panic attack, so people often feel as though they have come from nowhere and this unpredictability can be very scary.
People can be reluctant to return to the scene of a panic attack, as their brain warns them that this is dangerous, and so to an extreme level it can lead to claustophrobia or agoraphobia.
Hypnotherapy can help you control your response to stress and anxiety and anticipate any feelings of panic. Once we are able to respond to stressors in a calm and relaxed manner, we can focus more on the positive things in life, feeling more confident to manage difficult situations with ease.

Headaches and Migraines
Many people experience headaches, but repeated headaches can cause pain, tiredness, and difficulty concentrating. Tension headaches behind the eyes or in the temples can be exacerbated by stress, worry, or lack of sleep.
Migraines are a chronic condition, where headache can be accompanied by loss of vision and feelings of nausea. They can be a physical manifestation of an overload of stress or anxiety. Feelings of stress can build up slowly over time, and so migraines can often seem random or without an obvious cause.
Hypnotherapy can help the brain deal with negative thoughts and feelings and so work to prevent the build up of stress that can trigger a headache or migraine. It can also help you understand how chemical responses are formed in the brain and how to maximise 'happy' chemicals such as seratonin to cope better with pain and tension.

Fears and Phobias
It may be that your fear of an object or event has been caused by a negative experience you have had in the past. It may be that you have always been afraid of this object and you can't remember when it started. Humans are born with only two innate fears: loud noise and falling. Everything else is created in our minds by our experiences. Not everyone is afraid of dogs, for example. So if you are afraid of dogs, there must have been something that happened to you directly, or indirectly through your observation of someone else's fear of dogs, that has registered dogs in your brain as a threat.
Once the template has been created, your brain looks for any possible negative information or experiences that will confirm that dogs are a threat and so encourage you to avoid them for your own safety and self-preservation. Specific phobias such as these are easily overcome by Hypnotherapy. Once you are able to access the negative template in your mind, you can use hypnotherapy techniques to become desensitised to your fear and remove the negative emotion from your experiences. This collapses the existing fear template and allows you the opportunity to create a new positive template and, over time, gather positive information and experiences that reinforce your new perception of what you used to be afraid of.

Weight Management
In primitive times, the world was feast or famine. When you were hunting and gathering for your own food, you could not guarantee a plentiful supply, and so would gorge on available food to see you through periods without any food source.
In the modern western world, there is only feast – a constant supply of food at our fingertips. However, the compulsion to gorge still remains with us. After a while, our eating patterns can fall into bad habits and we conform to these habits often without even realising. We can often feel that what we choose to put into our mouths is out of our control.
Hypnotherapy can help you create new positive eating habits that will become second nature to you. There will be no need for 'willpower' or the 'struggle' that people usually associate with dieting. Hypnotherapy simply allows you to visualise how you want to be and make positive changes to work towards your ideal future.
Hypnotherapy allows you to re-educate your unconcious mind to your preferred future, one where weight management and food choices are no longer an issue. Accessing the part of your brain which allows you to make intellectual and informed choices means that weight management will no longer be about 'willpower' or 'dieting', but instead making positive and healthy lifestyle choices with ease.

Smoking Cessation
Do you want to give up smoking, but just can't seem to kick the habit? Research has shown that the physical withdrawal from a cigarette takes just 45 minutes – the rest is all habit. We can explain to you why you started smoking and understanding your thoughts around smoking really does make it easier to quit.
Hypnotherapy can also help you understand why you are craving a cigarette and how you can control and overcome these cravings. It will also be able to to help you identify your own resources and how to use these to continue to succeed. As long as you genuinely want to quit, you can leave the session a non-smoker and feeling calm confident and in control.
It will no longer be a case of 'willpower' or a 'struggle', just the clarity of mind to reinforce your decision to say no to a cigarette. Smoking is an emotionally-driven habit. Adverts, pictures, etc appeal to the intellectual side of the brain, which is exactly why they don't work.
Our smoking cessation therapy is a one-off session of two to two and a half hours.

Needle Phobia
Some people have had a fear of needles and injections for as long as they can remember. We call this a primary needle phobia. For others, it can develop because of all the understandable anxiety surrounding an illness, secondary needle phobia. It ís useful to remember that phobias are not a sign of lack of bravery; people can be perfectly good at parachuting and scared of needles! A course of three or four sessions of hypnotherapy is usually sufficient. *

Improve Self Confidence
How can hypnotherapy improve self confidence?
Whatever happened to you when you were young cannot be changed, but what can be altered is your reaction in the present day to situations that cause you to be fearful or doubtful of your performance.
For example, you may have been called 'stupid' or told that you would 'never make anything of your life'. Seeing these scenes again as an adult allows you to process them as an adult rather than a scared and confused five year old.
This will then allow you to reprogram your beliefs and goals in a more productive useful way, thus increasing your self-confidence. You will also be taken through a series of visualisation exercises to see the 'new you' and how good you appear and these images are then firmly planted in your mind.
Hypnotherapy can help you overcome any future negative self talk and help you to improve your self-image.What will having increased self confidence and self esteem do for you?
- Will allow you to focus on your good points.
- You will no longer be excessively self-critical. Instead you will feel worthy, competent, and confident about your ability to handle life's challenges.
- You will be able to receive criticism in either your professional or private life more constructively and objectively, allowing you to improve your relationships.
- You will be able to let go of errors made in the past that may be preventing you from developing yourself socially, financially, or professionally.
- You will find it easier to meet new people, go on dates, interview for jobs, and conduct yourself confidently at business meetings. You will generally have a more positive and healthier outlook on life.
- You will start to view goals and targets as opportunities to grow and develop yourself further.
